Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacogenetics Unit

Prof. Di Paolo

Director of the Unit at AOUP · Vice-director of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine

The unit centers on pharmacology, clinical pharmacokinetics, and therapeutic optimization in oncology and hematology. Our work spans drug monitoring, dose individualization, and safety evaluation in complex clinical settings, with strong orientation toward pediatric and adult oncology, anti-infective therapy, and pharmacometrics. The unit also provides therapeutic drug monitoring protocols, pharmacogenetic analyses, and counseling for drug-drug interactions at AOUP.

Research areas

Pharmacokinetics and TDM

Therapeutic drug monitoring in oncology and hematology, with dose individualization for narrow-index drugs.

Drug delivery and biomarkers

Mechanistic and translational pharmacology applied to cancer therapy and chronic diseases.

Anti-infective therapy

Antimicrobial treatment optimization and patient-specific factors influencing efficacy and tolerability.

Pediatric and adult oncology

Treatment outcomes, toxicity profiles, and innovative pharmacological approaches across age groups.

Pharmacometrics

Identification of factors influencing drug pharmacokinetics in adult and pediatric patients.
